I'm willing to bet that most business owners/sales professionals belong to some kind of networking organization like the Chamber of Commerce, BNI (Business Network International), or various other groups that are a great place/way for business professionals to meet/network. I say this because being a business owner myself, I know how much more likely it is for me to generate new business via a warm/hot lead or referral. With that being said, I am also willing to bet that if you do belong to a networking organization, then you also know that people are more likely to refer business to individuals who refer a lot of business than to someone who just takes without reciprocating.
With this in mind, I have to say that there are many web sites out there that do not put this knowledge to good use. It is not only enough to highlight your capabilities and what you can do for a customer if they give you business. You have to take the first steps to develop trust and a strong relationship. People are more willing to do business with you after you have already helped them in some way, shape or form. That is why value adding is so vital in business today. It is not only about doing good, it's about developing trust and a strong stable relationship. Be the expert and give something away to help others and see the results for yourself.
